Pure Ayre Review & Giveaway

I was excited to try PureAyre since we have two large dogs (labs), and I'm always looking for things to get rid of that dog smell. Febreeze, Glade and other odor eliminators make my husband ill, and I don't really care for that strong chemical smell either.

When I found out I was going to have the opportunity to try and review PureAyre, I visited their website and was shocked to see a video demonstration where the demonstrator actually sprayed the product in his mouth. It feels good to know that this is a safe product to use around my family and dogs.

The first thing I did when I received the bottle of PureAyre was open it up to smell it myself. It has a pleasant, natural minty smell which was not overwhelming at all. So, the first test was good; it's not something that will make my husband sick.

Next, I looked around my house to see what I could test it on. Then I found it... the mat next to the sliding glass door. My dogs love to lay on it, and I haven't been able to completely remove the dog smell on it with anything. So, I took the rug outside, washed it as I usually do and let it dry. It still had "that dog smell". I had my girls come and smell it as well. Then I sprayed the newly washed and dried, but still smelly, rug with PureAyre.

About 20 minutes later, a little skeptical because PureAyre has such a light and pleasant scent, I sniffed the rug. Now, I'm always hopeful that products I review will work well. These companies take the time to send us free product, and I really hate to give bad reviews, plus, I really want my rug to smell better! So, I'm really hopeful as I'm walking over to the rug...

I take a whiff... no bad smell... I take another whiff on another area of the rug... again... no bad smell! I call my girls over, just to make sure. They smell the rug and approve! In the words of my 15 year old daughter, "It doesn't smell like a horse stable any more, Mom!"

Bloggy Friends

I recently joined Blogelina, a new site for Bloggers.
While I am definitely not a beginning blogger, I have learned a few things.

Ive also been paired up with some great ladies in a little group to offer support and encouragement to each other. I can't tell you how great it is to get feedback from some one outside of your blog.

I wanted to introduce my readers to my new bloggy friends and their wonderful Blogs.

Put A Little Umbrella In Your Drink? What's that all about?
I always try to be optimistic and well "put a little umbrella in my drink". It is a metaphor for my take on easy peasy ways to make your life more glamorous and lovely without being a gazillionaire sipping a pina colada on a beach. You may just be sipping on a Vitamin Water or a sweet tea in your living room {my personal faves}. Add a little umbrella, you will see what I mean!

So what do you write about?
I write about finding fabulous online deals, my hobbies which include paper crafting and photography, with some what's going on in my life thrown in. I also love finding new and innovative products to review and giveaway.

Since I was young I dreamed of "living off the grid." To me this meant having the focus of time and attention on nothing but providing for my family. Through the years I see how my commitment to creating a sustainable community and environment has taught me some of the skills necessary to for fulfilling that dream. We aren't there yet but even in the midst of the suburbs we are striving for the clean living I imagine to one day take part in.

For now I blog about what it means to tap into the power of nature to provide for my family. I study herbs and their uses for healing and health, I experiment with new health products to determine their effectiveness in healing, I preserve food all summer to provide for my family in the winter, I am learning (slowly) how to garden, and teaching my children how to act responsibly in caring for our environment. I weave all these things into my children's life whenever possible and hope they see the value in caring for the earth as they grow older.

Someday I will have my oasis in the country. We will live in a house we design and build powered by renewable energy, grow our own food and live as locally and respectfully from the earth as possible. Until then, we use our daily lives to experiment with what works best as we balance our life between technology/consumerism and sustaining our environment.

I started blogging because I have had diabetes since I was 17 months old. I woke up one day feeling that I had more potential than what I had achieved thus far in my life. Plus, as a diabetic I have dealt with doctors my whole life who recommended artificial sweeteners and prescriptions to the diabetic population, which only kill you faster, so I decided "who better to write about it than a person who has lived with it and experienced the disease firsthand and found natural alternatives"...and maybe even help others or at least give them some information they weren't able to get from "doctors".

So here are a few of my bloggy friends. Stop by their sites, they are great ladies with great blogs!  If you are looking to make some friends of your own, stop by Time4Mommy's New Community.

My thoughts -I love historical fiction and all things Scottish but I have to tell you I wanted to throw this book when I was about half way through. I was so stinkin' mad BUT then I had to remember Diccan is never a gentleman. I appreciated Grace as a strong female lead although she does have some self esteem issues because of her looks. I enjoyed this book and the author introduces secondary characters who will appear in her next book making you really really want to read it. Or at least it did me. :) This is the second book in the series, You don't have to read the first to keep up but you will probably want to!

Guest Post from Author Roxanne St. Claire

First of all, I have to say that I love the concept of this site, and have been a regular visitor since I first discovered takingtimeformommy.  Even when I can’t take “me time,” there are so many great ideas and incentives here that I gather up and save for that day when I do have that valuable commodity.  So, I’m honored to be able to be part of this great community.

When a mom works from home, as I have since the day my son was born eighteen years ago, there is a (mis)conception that she doesn’t really work, and that downtime is part of her life.  I’m sure there are plenty of you out there who work from home and know that is a myth!  There is no downtime with an office across the hall from the den.  You’re in one or the other, always!

Luckily for me, “reading” is part of work and when I find a great book that is an escape, I take that journey as often as I can.  Even if all I have is twenty minutes before I crash, a book that takes me away from every concern in the world is my favorite choice.  That’s probably why I read and write romantic suspense…because the rollercoaster ride of these stories promises breathtaking adventure and heartbreaking passion and, for me, that is truly the great escape.

Yes, we have our book clubs and literary novels, our Oprah picks and self-improvement books, biographies, memoirs, and plenty of phenomenal stories that make us think hard about complex subjects.  But when I want to take that great escape, I read suspense and romance.

So it should be no surprise that I write the “beach book” or “light read” – stories about two people who take a journey that is as dangerous to their hearts as it is to their lives.  I want my readers to forget the world when they travel to an exotic country. I want them to forget their daily lives when they fall in love with a protective, sexy bodyguard. I want them to forget to make dinner when they are in the shoes of a woman on the run.  And when I get emails from readers who tell me I’ve stolen their sleep, I say I’m sorry…but I’m not!

This month, I’m celebrating the back to back releases of two such books and I promise a great escape with both of them.  SHIVER OF FEAR takes readers on a sweeping adventure to Ireland when heroine Devyn Sterling searches for the truth about her birth mother and finds far more than she ever expected…including love from the man sent to stop her.  A month later, FACE OF DANGER slips behind the scenes of a movie star’s life when private investigator Vivi Angelino takes the job as a Oscar winning actress’s body double to lure and trap a serial killer, but discovers there is much more to her role than she’d ever anticipated…including a certain by-the-book FBI agent who has his own approach to solving crimes.  I defy you to worry about the burdens of every day life when you are escaping into these two fun fantasies!

So, tell me, busy moms…what do you like to read when your goal is to forget the world and have an adventure?

Shiver of Fear & Face of Danger Review & Giveaway Combo

I am so excited to tell you that in honor of the Guardian Angelo tour we are allowed to give away 3 combo packs of both SHIVER OF FEAR and FACE OF DANGER.
The legacy that haunts her . . .

The mystery she must solve . . .

A man who threatens to reveal her secrets . . .

and break her heart.

Burned by a failed marriage, former FBI agent Marc Rossi wants back in the investigation game with no emotional strings attached. Taking an assignment for his enterprising Angelino cousins, he heads to Northern Ireland to pry a key piece of evidence from a missing socialite-any way he can. But when the ice queen turns out to be warm, beautiful, and on a secret mission of her own, the job becomes a passionate reminder of what happens when duty and desire mix. The daughter of an infamous fugitive, Devyn Sterling has survived betrayal only to find that her mother has mysteriously disappeared. When her search uncovers secrets, lies, and threats, Devyn and Marc must trust each other when every instinct says they can't . . . and a terrorist wants to make sure they won't live to try.

Read an Excerpt

My thoughts - Shiver of Fear could easily have been a stand alone book but I admit by the end I wanted to read the previous and the next book. I was surprised there was so much action in the romance book while still keeping it sexy.  It was very fast paced and I think it would actually make a fantastic action movie that both my hubby and I would love to see. Devyn and Marc had incredible chemistry and the book kept me on my toes as I didn't know the ending (I'm REALLY good at guessing them) Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a good romance or mystery.

Private investigator Vivi Angelino loves living life on the edge, but stepping into the shoes of a movie starlet to bait a serial killer isn't just a thrill . . . it's a ticket to the big time for her fledgling security firm. That is, as long as a certain risk-averse FBI agent stays out of her way-and out of her fantasies.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge Colton Lang isn't above using his well-worn rulebook to stop Vivi's latest walk on the wild side. But when they learn her client is involved in something far more insidious than bad acting, Vivi and Colt must work together despite the electrifying attraction arcing between them. For each new clue is bringing them closer to a high-profile crime with a dark and deadly truth at its core . . . and a cold, calculating murderer with nothing left to lose.
                                                            Read an Excerpt

My thoughts - Vivi is my inner child. She's who I might be if I didn't have the responsibility of a family except I don't have that many issues. I might not have been a PI either but it's fun to live vicariously through her. Colton is uptight and ubber responsible. They are quite the mismatch but you know what they say, opposites attract. There personal issues could have really weighted the book down but the author made it work. it was funny and I was on the edge of my seat.

Mandie's Couponing Adventure

I spent a lot of yesterday out shopping and I used a ton of coupons. I am no Extreme Couponer, unfortunately in Florida they don't double coupons, at least no where around or maybe I would be.  I did manage to save a lot of money though.

I spent $73.60 out of pocket for $138.50 worth of stuff.

That's a savings of $65 and I have $11 to use at CVS 7 Walgreens on my next purchase and have 8 Free Movies from RedBox

Here is my Publix Receipt -

I spent $15.31 and saved $22.99

I bought crackers -BOGO FREE and I stacked a coupon on Each
I also did that with the Mozz Cheese & Spaghetti
Sauce.

I bought  new kind of cereal - Fiber one plus and It came with some fiber one bars  if you bought 2. I stacked coupons on everything.

i had a lot of coupons for other things but it was for things I didn't really use.

Here are my receipts to Dollar General, Walgreens, and CVS

Dollar General - I only bought laundry detergent there.
All with Oxi Active - They were $4 each, I bought 2 and used a $1.50 off of each. I probably could have waited and found a better deal in the coming weeks but I'm almost out. So $5 for both

CVS - I bought 2 listerine pocket pacs - with my couons they were $.50 each.
A new GE energy Smart light bulb for $.99 & two Gallons of TGLee milk for $2.19 each with the $4 towards my next visit.

Walgreens - I bought a lot here. I won't bore you but I got some good deals on Salmon, flour, eggs, and easter Candy. I also bought 2 woman's Nivea body wash for $.78 each & 2 Men's Nivea Body wash for $.78 each.  Also got free toothpaste, air freshener, 3 tapes, and hair accessories. ($7 towards my next purchase)

I would have gotten a lot more deals if I would have started gathering coupons a week early . Oh well. I didn't buy a lot of food this go around because I am very stocked up and bought fresh produce just the other day.

Many of our followers have asked me to post the deals I find online here, so that's what I will start doing this coming week.

In Zanesville Review and 2 Book Giveaway

The beguiling fourteen-year-old narrator of IN ZANESVILLE is a late bloomer. She is used to flying under the radar-a sidekick, a third wheel, a marching band dropout, a disastrous babysitter, the kind of girl whose Eureka moment is the discovery that "fudge" can't be said with an English accent.

Luckily, she has a best friend, a similarly undiscovered girl with whom she shares the everyday adventures of a 1970s American girlhood, incidents through which a world is revealed, and character is forged.

In time, their friendship is tested-- by their families' claims on them, by a clique of popular girls who stumble upon them as if they were found objects, and by the first, startling, subversive intimations of womanhood.

With dry wit and piercing observation, Jo Ann Beard shows us that in the seemingly quiet streets of America's innumerable Zanesvilles is a world of wonders, and that within the souls of the awkward and the overlooked often burns something radiant and unforgettable.

Author Bio

Jo Ann Beard is the author of a collection of autobiographical essays, The Boys of My Youth. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, Tin House, Best American Essays, and other magazines and anthologies. She received a Whiting Foundation Award and nonfiction fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

My Thoughts - This book isn't only for the YA audience. It was like a flash back to my adolescence.  Although I never had a child I was watching set fire to a house. The main character deals with a lot, like her dad's alcoholism and her mother's growing unhappiness and while she tries to ignore it all it comes to the surface.
As a late bloomer myself I appreciated Jo Anne Beard's depiction of an awkward girl's teenage years. I also enjoyed her dry wit.
