Dress me up and take me out

My anniversary is coming up and I've been looking for the perfect dress. It's my one time of the year I really get to go all out. Like my own personal prom.

My sweetie takes me to a fine dining restaurant and some times a play. It's our "romantic" time so I really want to look hot. I'm looking through evening dresses and I have picked out a couple. I Love the one on the left because the color is perfect and it's so fun and cute. I could even wear it some place a little more casual and get away with it.

Or I can go with a little back dress. This is from BCBG and I already have some really cute BCBG shoes to go with it I bought a few months ago.  This one is on sale too AND it's a little black dress I could keep forever (as long as I don't let myself out grow it lol)

Maybe if I buy the dress on sale I can splurge on a designer handbag?. I'm in love with the clutch below. It's one I would use all of the time. That would be a very nice anniversary gift and since my husband has me buy my anniversary gifts myself.....

....But this one would match the back dress so well and it's on sale too!  Decisions, Decisions!

The Arrivals Book Tour & Review

 The Arrivals: A Novel

It's early summer when Ginny and William's peaceful life in Vermont comes to an abrupt halt.

First, their daughter Lillian arrives, with her two children in tow, to escape her crumbling marriage. Next, their son Stephen and his pregnant wife Jane show up for a weekend visit, which extends indefinitely when Jane ends up on bed rest. When their youngest daughter Rachel appears, fleeing her difficult life in New York, Ginny and William find themselves consumed again by the chaos of parenthood - only this time around, their children are facing adult problems.

By summer's end, the family gains new ideas of loyalty and responsibility, exposing the challenges of surviving the modern family - and the old adage, once a parent, always a parent, has never rung so true.

Reading Group Guide

Mandie's Thoughts - I can't believe this was a debut novel. Beautiful characterizations but if you are looking for happy go lucky you aren't going to find it. The book is real life and honest. You get an inside glimpse at the struggles with a multi-generational family. Perfect for a book club because there is really so much you can talk about. I agree with Once a parent always a parent.

Guest Post from Meg Mitchell Moore

In my debut novel, The Arrivals, three adult siblings return to their parents’ home in Burlington, Vt., over the course of a summer, bringing their grownup problems with them. Their reasons for being home are myriad: a teetering marriage, financial ruin, a pregnancy emergency. To be sure, putting three siblings in one house at the same time shows the extreme end of adult children leaning on their parents, but fiction wouldn’t be very interesting without extremes.

So how common are similar scenarios? Common enough that it doesn’t take long to find blog after blog dedicated to the topic (here’s one: www.adultchildrenlivingathome.com/blog/category/statistics). On Amazon, a search on the subject yielded dozens and dozens of results: The Nesting Syndrome, Setting Boundaries with Your Adult Children, How to Really Love Your Adult Child, and so on. Because I first ran the search without specifying only books, one result that popped up was a rollaway bed on wheels, which I found both comical and telling.

You can find statistics about adult children returning home by state and by country. You can find individual stories or wide-ranging data. According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, 13 percent of parents with grown children say one of their adult sons or daughters has moved back home in the past year. In the United States, also according to the Pew Research Center, 2.9 million children, or four percent of all children, are being raised mainly by at least one grandparent; this number increased dramatically during the country’s latest economic recession. Grandparents, AARP tells us in a different survey, are making increasingly frequent appearances on volunteer days in schools.

The Owen siblings who populate my book are all between the ages of twenty-nine and thirty-six. They should all be self-sufficient, both economically and emotionally, but in these times of heartbreak or economic difficulty they have found their way back home, where they alternately annoy and delight their parents and each other with their presence. Early readers of my book have had harsh words for the oldest sibling, Lillian, who brings her three-year-old daughter and infant boy home for a good portion of the summer, trailing baby socks and breast pump equipment. She is, the way many mothers are, so focused on her baby and her nursing schedule that it is difficult for her to see what others are going through. (I’ve been there, and I bet many readers of this blog have too!) I have been told variously that Lillian needs a kick in the pants, to have her neck wrung, to be told what’s what. I have been told that Ginny and William Owen should not have put up with some of the behavior they accept from their adult children. A very discerning reader has pointed out that the book shows how, when adult siblings return home, they often revert to their original roles in the family.

I know this is a website for moms, so how about it, moms? Do you depend on your parents more than your parents depended on their parents? When your children are all grown up is it going to be adios or call whenever you need anything?

Stilettos & Scoundrels Book Review

Synopsis: Presley Thurman, a sassy, thirty-something red head, was looking to reinvent herself. She didn’t allow the fact she was recently fired to bother her – she was ready to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a writer. Presley was a lover of shopping and Starbucks, and even though she sometimes had bad taste in men, she always had great taste in clothes.
However, the new writing job turned into something unexpected when the U.S. Senator she was slated to write about was murdered – in her home town! Presley was excited – she hadn’t seen so much buzz since the spring sample sale at Saks. She was ready for this adventure, even if it didn’t seem to fit neatly into her life.  She couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be in the middle of the buzz.

Presley was determined (not to mention curious) to find the killer and write her story. After all, she couldn’t afford her shoe habit without a job and she was certainly not one to shy away from danger. The only thing standing in her way was an old high school fling, Cooper Sands, head of the Senator’s security. He was not actually standing in her way, but because of his good looks, he was the biggest distraction and one she was having the hardest time overcoming. In spite of that, Presley was able to discover the Senator’s wife, Helen, had been having an affair… with her best friend’s boyfriend! Did Helen kill the Senator? Or was it the Senator’s love of gambling that got him killed? And what was Cooper’s secret tie to the mob boss Garrison Palazzo?

About the author, Laina Turner:

Laina Turner-Molaski is a business woman, mom, author, Professor, and a major supporter of shopping. She has an undying love for shoes and coffee, which is why she created her main character and alter-ego Presley Thurman.
With a lot of letters after her name and a ton of student loan debt, she is always working to pay the bills. While she enjoys her day job, her passion is writing, and she uses a lot of company time writing her fiction or working on her social website for women, Chiczofrenic.com. She is hoping to sell her book before she gets fired from her day job for goofing off.
Laina is currently living in Indiana, with her family, and is always writing something, whether it's blogs, articles, business journals and books or ideas for her next novel. She is continuously doing what she loves which is writing or drinking coffee. Laina Turner's Website

Mandie's Thoughts - This was a fun quirky book! Love chic lit and mystery mixed. I received an Advanced Writer's Copy so I'm sure there will be some changes. I didn't like the fact that it changed into others thoughts at time but over all the story was great. Presley was very likeable and  Cooper and Presley have nice chemistry. This book has plenty of twists and turns! Perfect beach read!

Cute & Comfy CushionKnee Review & Giveaway

Mothers can spend a good amount of time on their knees. Cleaning floors and tubs, gardening, and bathing the kids can leave you with sore or aching knees.

Recently, Mandie told me about the Cute and Comfy CushionKnee. It's a truly cute and comfy kneeling pad that comes in a wide variety of fabrics. Mandie met the creator of the CushionKnee through the Time4Mommy community. When I saw the website, I thought it was such a great idea! It can really hurt to kneel on a hard surface, and I seem to be doing that a lot.

The cushion I received was the perfect size and came in a very pretty package, which made me think it would be a wonderful gift for another mom, or even my mom, as she's always having problems with her knees. Looking at the website again today, I see that they also have gift baskets with bath supplies that would make a unique and appreciated gift for a baby shower.

I was instantly impressed with how much support the soft cushion actually provided. It is sturdy but soft on the knees. It's made out of a durable foam that's also water resistant, which, again, makes it perfect for bathing, gardening, and cleaning. The covers can be removed to be cleaned and are easily replaced.

The cushions can also serve a dual purpose as a sitting cushion at your kids' sporting events, or while sitting on the floor watching tv or playing games.

I really love the Cute & Comfy CushionKnee.
Everyone should have at least one!  You can win one here or buy your own with these generous Discount codes

Which Super Power Would You Want?

Which one of Superman's superpowers would you want? He had super strength, super speed, heat vision, super hearing and that's just the beginning.

Clark Kent had to learn how to master his abilities one at a time. I would want his super speed. From the very first episode Clark misses his bus but reveals his super speed when he outruns it through a cornfield. That episode was iconic and had me hooked for the entire series!

I have been hired by Warner Bros WBWord division to raise awareness for 'Smallville

The 'Smallville: The Complete Series' DVD lets you experience the exciting journey Clark Kent embarks upon to realize his destiny! With over 24 hours of special features and 2 hours of never before seen footage, the complete series on DVD is the ultimate resource for the Smallville fan!

Double Trouble Book Tour, Review, & Giveaway

Faith Aldridge wants answers. Bramble, Texas is the only place she can find them . . . as well as Hope, the identical twin sister she never knew she had. But the townsfolk reckon that shy city-girl Faith is really her long-lost sister Hope, back in Bramble at last. And they're fixin' to do whatever it takes to heat things up between her and Hope's long-time flame, Slate Calhoun. If that means rustling her car, spreading rumors like wildfire, and reining in some explosive secrets, well, there's no way like the Lone Star way . . .

But Slate's no fool. The woman in his truck may look like Hope, yet the way she feels in his arms is altogether new. He's determined to keep this twin in his bed and out of his heart. Trouble is, the real Hope is headed home, and she's got her own designs on Slate. If Faith wants to avoid heartbreak, she'll have to show a certain ruggedly handsome cowboy that this crazy-impossible love is worth fighting for.

THERE'S A NEW BRIDE IN TOWN!
Hope Scroggs is finally ready to get hitched. After years of sowing her wild oats, the former head cheerleader and homecoming queen has returned to Bramble, Texas, to marry her high school flame. But her perfect wedding plans are stomped to smithereens when her adoring cowboy two-steps down the aisle with someone else. Now Hope is stuck with the one man from her past she can't shake: Colt Lomax, an irresistible bad boy whose sultry kisses are hotter than the Panhandle in August . . .

Colt lives for freedom and the open road; he never gets attached, never looks back. Still, he can't forget the night of passion he once shared with Bramble's sweetheart--a night he wouldn't mind repeating. So, he piles on the Texas charm to tease the feisty beauty back into his bed, while she tries her darnedest to resist. But something unexpected is about to tie their fates together . . . and oh, baby, will it ever!

BabyBond Nursing Cover Review and Giveaway

Sponsored by Tomoson.com

Our friend Francini
I loved breastfeeding my girls. The are so many benefits to breastfeeding... better health, free, no mess ... and my girls' diapers never had the funky smells that formula fed babies' diapers had. There's also an undeniable bond that happens while breastfeeding.

When I was breastfeeding, over a decade ago, there weren't all of the cool wraps that are are available now. I would usually do a "lift and cover" when other people were around. You know.... lift the shirt, and cover with a baby blanket.

I've been seeing more and more mothers use wraps to carry their babies, and also use as a cover when nursing, but recently I discovered something even better.

The BabyBond is a wrap that goes over your shirt. So rather than nursing from under your shirt, exposing your stomach in the process, you nurse from the top of your shirt. The wrap works in such a way that you are totally covered, but your baby is not. This means your baby can see you, and you can still interact with her. I think it makes for a much more pleasurable experience for mom and baby.

BabyBond Original is worn with shirts that are accessible to nurse from the top and has a built-in burpcloth and matching pouch storage pouch. BabyBond Flex is worn with shirts that are accessible to nurse from the top and has a removable burpcloth and matching pouch storage pouch. BabyBond Couture is adjustable and can be worn with shirts that are accessible to nurse from the top or the bottom. It rolls up into itself to store. BabyBond is machine washable, 100% cotton, and made in USA.
